Celebrate Literacy WeekThe Florida Department of Education has designated January 24–28 as Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! This week is designed to raise awareness about the importance of reading, and to inspire Florida's students and families to make reading part of their daily routines.

The 2022 Celebrate Literacy Week theme is Launch Into Literacy, Blast Off Into New Worlds! With this theme in mind, Flagler Schools will be reading books with a variety of settings to support the New Worlds Reading Initiative program released this fall. 

Bunnell Elementary School will celebrate literacy with these fun daily activities:

Launch Into LiteracyMonday, January 24th
  • Kickoff - classroom door decorating contest for "Launch into Literacy" theme

Tuesday, January 25th
  • A Day in the Yard - bring a beach towel and read outside

Wednesday, January 26th

  • Space-related Books - paired reading (3rd–6th grades read to PK–2nd grades)
  • Books on display in the Media Center for checkout

Thursday, January 27th
  • Glow in the Dark - bring a flashlight and read in your darkened classroom

Friday, January 28th
  • Wear a school-appropriate tee shirt that has either: as many words as possible on it, so others can read it, OR a quote from your favorite book
  • Judging for the classroom door decorating contest (winners announced Monday, 1/31)

Guest readers including: FCSO, district employees, and community members will visit students daily.
