Media Center

We welcome all members of the Wadsworth Elementary School Community to "The Panther Den" Media Center. We ask that everyone be respectful and responsible in enjoying and preserving our wonderful resources.

The Media Center, which is an integral part of the total instructional program, serves students and faculty as needed in all curricular areas. It offers varied enrichment opportunities in an environment that encourages students to pursue individual interests and to develop their potential as lifelong learners. A library-skills program integrated and correlated within the curriculum at all levels is available as well as support for classroom reading and technology programs.

Policies and Procedures

Hours

Students are welcome to come to the media center between 8:30 am–3:00 pm. When the media staff is not present, the lights will be out. No students should enter the library if the lights are out. Students who come during school hours should have a pass and a purpose.

Classes visit the media center weekly with their teacher to check out books.

While in the Media Center

Read or check out materials, use computers for research or educational games, and other activities deemed appropriate by media center staff.

SSYRA

The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program (SSYRA) is a statewide reading program for students in grades 3–5. The SSYRA Junior Program is a set of 15 books for students in grades K–2.

The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for personal satisfaction based on interest rather than just reading level. Students are encouraged to read books that are above, on, and below their tested reading level in order to improve their reading fluency and have a greater exposure to literature.
