Health Services

The School Health Services Program is designed to appraise, protect, and promote the health of our students as well as provide preventive and emergency school-based health services in accordance with the School Health Services Plan for Flagler County.  

School Clinic Services

The school clinic can assist students with the administration of physician-ordered medication. No student will be given any medication without a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian. The following nonprescription first aid treatments have been approved for use in Flagler Schools with parental permission.  

• Basic First Aid Services: Band aids, ice packs, and temperature checks

• Minor Wound Care (Cuts, Scrapes, and Abrasions): Vaseline/alcohol/triple antibiotic ointment/Bacitracin 

• Minor Eye Irritation: Sterile eye wash 
• Minor Bites and/or Stings: Sting relief pad/calamine lotion/1% hydrocortisone cream
• Minor Upset Stomach and/or Indigestion: Water

Flagler Schools does not provide any other health care services and/or screenings without prior written parental consent. Parents/Guardians have the option to decline School Clinic Services by updating the Parental Consent for School Clinic Services form included in the Digital Learning Registration.

School Clinic Screenings

FS 381.0056(7)(d), mandates regular health screenings to public school students. Separate written consent forms will be furnished when these screenings and/or services are made available.

• Vision Screening: Mandatory for grades K, 1, 3, 6, and all new students K–6
• Hearing Screening: Mandatory for grades K, 1, 6, and all new students K–6 
• Scoliosis: Mandatory for grade 6
• Specific Health Screening: By request or as needed for grades PK–12
• Behavioral Health Well-Being Questionnaire: Students 12 years and older

Records Review

• Student health records are reviewed for initial school entry requirements, immunization status, emergency information, health screenings, and student-specific health related documents.

• FS 1003.22 requires parents of each child entering school to provide a school-entry health examination and a certificate of immunization to the school to be kept on file in the cumulative record. Record reviews are done by nurses or computer operators/registrars to ensure these documents have been received and are accurate and complete.

In the event of a student emergency, school nurses and trained staff will administer emergency intervention care until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive on scene.
